Description
The Grind is not a trail – it’s a social phenomenon. On evenings after work and on weekends, this trail, which heads straight up the mountainside just east of the gondola, sees hundreds of walkers, looking for a good burn as the trail climbs 853 m (2,800 ft) in 2.9 km (1.8 mi). If you do the math, that’s about 1 metre up for every 3.4 metres traveled, which makes this a good cardio-workout. This partially explains the high traffic the trail sees. Another important element in the Grind’s popularity is the fact that there is a restaurant at the top and you take the gondola (for a fee) back down. The trail has seen lots of recent improvements and is literally one long wooden and rock staircase. It is also closed in winter.
